🌱 Welcome to Our Nursery at Woodlands
At Woodlands, we offer a nurturing and stimulating Nursery class for up to 30 children.
Our morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am. Our extended care sessions finish at 3pm.
A Gentle Start
We understand that starting Nursery is a big step—for both children and parents. In the first few days and weeks, we place great importance on creating a calm and positive transition from home to school. Our team works closely with families to ensure every child feels safe, happy, and ready to explore their new environment.
Key Worker System
Each child is assigned a dedicated Key Worker who:
Greets them each morning and supports them at home time
Builds a strong, trusting relationship
Acts as a key link between home and school
This consistent support helps children settle quickly and feel confident in their surroundings.
Learning Through Play
Our highly qualified and experienced staff create a well-planned environment where children can thrive. Each session includes:
Adult-led group time to encourage language, social, and early learning skills
Child-led play where children choose their own activities, both indoors and outdoors
The classroom and outdoor areas are thoughtfully structured to help children feel secure while giving them the freedom to explore. As their confidence grows, so do their interests—and the activities evolve to match.
Growing Together
Our goal is to help children become:
Confident and independent learners
Curious and creative thinkers
Happy and engaged children
We provide a wide variety of experiences to nurture each child’s individual potential.
👩🏫 A Dedicated Team
The Nursery team at Woodlands is passionate about early years education. We feel privileged to be part of your child’s first step into learning and are committed to supporting them every step of the way.
Our Learning
This term we are heavily focussing on the ‘Prime Areas’ of learning.
There are three prime areas of learning that are crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for building their capacity to learn and form relationships. They are:
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
Our staff will also support children in four other areas, through which the prime areas are strengthened:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
'What's in the garden?'
This Summer term, the children will be exploring the fascinating world of minibeasts and living things through a range of practical, hands-on experiences. Our planning will be guided by the children's current interests, ensuring learning is meaningful, engaging and responsive. From going on bug hunts and building bug hotels to observing how creatures like caterpillars and snails move and grow, the children will develop their curiosity about the natural world.
We will focus on these key texts:
- The Very Hungry Caterpillar
- The Very Busy Spider
- Superworm
- I Can Only Draw Worms
- Mad About Minibeasts
Alongside this, the children will explore early concepts such as life cycles, habitats and a respect for the environment and nature.
The children will continue to visit the library every Wednesday, where we will explore non-fiction texts.
