A big welcome to Nursery!
Our Nursery staff are Miss Day (EYFS Teacher), Mrs Dickson (EYFS Teacher Friday morning) Mrs Rendall (Early Years Practitioner), Mrs Bream (Early Years Practitioner) and Mrs Smith (Lunchtime Supervisor).
We have a Nursery class for thirty children, with one intake a year (in September) and sessions run from 08:45 – 11:45. In the first days and weeks, ensuring a smooth transition from home to school is of the utmost importance to us, so parents and carers are encouraged to stay until they are comfortable that their child is settled.
We operate a Key Worker system. Each child has a specific practitioner to support them in the morning and when they go home, as well as liaise between home and school. All our staff are very well qualified in working with young children and are very experienced. As well as their group work, children also have part of the session where they can decide what they would like to do either inside or in our outside area. With carefully structured classroom areas, the children soon feel relaxed in the Nursery environment and are able to settle down to activities that they are comfortable with. These activities often change and develop as their confidence develops.
We aim to help the children become confident, independent learners and inquisitive and happy children who are eager to engage in a rich variety of experiences.
All of the Nursery team here at Woodlands are very committed to developing each child's individual potential and feel privileged to be sharing their first stepping stone of education.
Firstly, a big welcome back to those children moving up from the playgroup and an even bigger welcome to those children new to Woodlands. We hope you have all had a lovely summer and are ready to embrace the new term.
During their time at Woodlands Nursery, we hope that your child will flourish in every way, as well as enjoy every second. We will start our term by spending a couple of weeks settling the children in. There will be a focus on finding their peg, recognising their name, getting to know their environment, learning the rules & expectations, as well as having lots of fun reading stories and singing songs. Of course, we know that it might be a little daunting leaving parents for some children, so we encourage parents to stay for as long as needed to settle their child.
Once the children have settled in and are in a routine, we will begin our topics. We will start with the topic ‘All about me’ which will cover looking at the children’s body, their face, family and also feelings. There will be activities in the environment set up for the children to access based on these topics, as well as adult-led activities that the children will complete. Some other topics throughout the year will be determined by the children’s interests.
While your child is having lots of fun, the adults will complete observations of your children. These will make up their learning journal and will be available to view online at ‘Look @ me.’ You will be given a login once these are up and running. Please check these regularly, as it is a good way to keep up to date with your child’s learning and progress. There is also a comment section for parents and we would greatly appreciate regular use of this.
Lastly, please remember to check the noticeboard in the cloakroom for any key dates or events coming up, as well as the topic of the week.
We hope that your child enjoys their first term at Woodlands Nursery and we look forward to working closely with you to ensure the very best for your child!
