Our Curriculum Intent
At Woodlands, our curriculum is designed to recognise children’s prior learning, provide first-hand learning experiences, allow children to develop language and communication skills, and become reflective thinkers about their learning.
We aim to deliver a relevant, rich, and balanced curriculum through which children can experience wonder and curiosity and develop their interests and experiences. Our curriculum is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values, and enhanced through school trips, visitors and cross-curricular themed events, which bring learning to life, encourage a thirst for knowledge and promote independence and social skills.
We strive for our curriculum to be accessible to all pupils to master. This fits in very well with our school vision, that ‘We aim to provide a learning environment where all children can achieve their highest potential and foster a climate where all children, regardless of class, race, gender or disability feel secure and can grow in confidence and self-esteem. We do this by setting high expectations for all pupils and removing barriers to achieve those expectations (e.g. through accessible resources, differentiation and reasonable adjustments).
We encourage positive attitudes to learn, which reflect the values and skills needed for future success. We want our children to experience a love of learning and leave Woodlands with the confidence and skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, make connections, and become lifelong learners.

At Woodlands, we value each child and want to ensure that they are given every opportunity to reach their full potential academically and socially. We scaffold learning to ensure that children are allowed to close any gaps in their education through pre-teaching, over-learning, and support prompts. Embedded through our curriculum are our core values that have been carefully selected by all stakeholders and planned to ensure that children are prepared for their next steps in education and adulthood.
