 Sports Premium Grant

Children at Woodlands are enthusiastic about P.E. and take part in P.E. lessons twice a week. Within these lessons, children develop their skills in various areas, including games, gymnastics, dance and athletics, swimming and outdoor adventure activities.

In line with our Values, we promote healthy life choices and teach pupils how to look after their bodies well.

Woodlands also provides other opportunities for children across the school to participate in sport through a variety of lunchtime and after school clubs.

We are part of the School Sports Partnership and use specialist teachers for some of our P.E. sessions, which provide quality provision and opportunities for CPD (staff development).

Our pupils enjoy representing Woodlands at a range of local competitions and tournaments, including swimming, athletics, speed stacking, cricket and quick sticks hockey.

Annually, the children participate in the school's Sports Day, a popular event amongst children, parents, and staff. Children represent their House Colours, competing against one another.

We aim to provide as many wider opportunities as possible to develop curiosity, confidence, teamwork and passion.  The children in Key Stage 2 enjoy participating in a range of outdoor pursuit activities such as climbing & abseiling during their residential trips.

We celebrate the achievements and children's participation in sport through assemblies, our Twitter page and newsletters.  Termly certificates for individuals in each class are given to those who have shown good sportsmanship and participation in P.E.  An award is also presented to two children at the end of Year 6.

 Sports Premium Grant

As part of the Olympic Legacy, the government provides funding to provide substantial primary school sports funding. Jointly provided by the Department of Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport, the money is allocated directly to primary school Headteachers to improve the quality of sport and P.E. for all their children. The funding is ring-fenced for sport and P.E. provision, but schools will have the freedom to choose how it is spent.
