Sports Premium Grant
What the Primary PE & Sport Premium Is:
The Primary PE & sport premium is additional government funding for state-funded primary schools to improve physical education (PE), sport and activity provision for pupils aged 5–11.
It should help schools:

support all pupils to be active and healthy

increase participation in sport and physical activity

enhance quality of PE teaching
-
embed a wide range of sporting opportunities for all pupils.
Who Gets It?
Eligible schools include:

State-funded primary schools (maintained, academies and free schools)

Non-maintained special schools
How Much Funding Schools Receive
For the 2025–26 academic year (current guidance):

Schools with 16 or fewer eligible pupils receive £1,000 per pupil

Schools with 17 or more eligible pupils receive £16,000 plus £10 per eligible pupil
What the Funding Must Be Used For
You must use the premium to make additional and sustainable improvements to provision of PE, sport and physical activity. That means:
Acceptable Uses
Schools can use the funding to:
🔹 provide quality staff training (CPD) to improve confidence and skills
🔹 extend extracurricular sport opportunities
🔹 support pupils’ engagement in physical activity
🔹 widen access to competitive sport and inclusive activities
🔹 employ specialist coaches (as development support, not long-term replacement for teachers)
🔹 fund transport to competitions and activity opportunities
🔹 help pupils with additional needs participate fully.Not Allowed
You must not use the funding for:
❌ teaching the minimum national curriculum requirement (this is in core funding)
❌ staffing costs for regular PE lessons delivered instead of teachers
❌ buying staff PE kit
❌ capital projects (large buildings) or advancing services into future years
❌ transport to activities that meet only the minimum PE curriculum.
